This was taken in 2012 from Skellig Michael, where I had spent a couple of days taking photographs. I hadn't intended it to be a landscape photograph when I took it. This crop excludes the main subject of the original picture: a helicopter.
To get off the island, I'd arranged to be picked up by one of the Irish Lights' helicopters as it passed by. (I do work for the Irish Lights now and then.) While I was waiting, I saw this scene of Little Skellig, with a rainbow and curtain of rain behind it. It struck me that it would make a dramatic backdrop as the helicopter came into land. The full frame shows the helicopter on its approach and I gifted it to the organisation. As far as I know, they never used it, perhaps because the helicopter was the older of the two helicopters they operate.
Afterwards, I realised the picture worked equally well with the helicopter cropped out—as a straight landscape image.
