My town of Tongyeong has a series of mountaintop lookouts in the North, South, East, and West. These date back to times of Admiral Yi Sun Shin. Since Tongyeong is a strategic naval location, these lookouts were built to help warn against attacks.
Early the other morning, I got up at dawn and climbed up to the top of the North lookout (통영 북포루). I quite enjoyed watching the sun rise over the city.
I thought I would be the only one up there so early, but it seems to be a popular spot for morning exercises, especially for the elderly.
If you’re ever in Tongyeong, South Korea, I recommend this spot to get a great view of the city (and get a nice workout too).
