Yesterday's post motivated me to actually do a hike today. It was raining and gross out but that's usually when it's the quietest. By the time I rolled up to the mountain it was very foggy out, so I was excited to take some spooky pictures.
This mountain in particular always gets me thinking about the diverse geology on the island. This palace in particular is home to a couple of ancient creekbeds that are now almost invisible (see below). You can tell by the way the rocks under all the moss have worn away. Behind the picture are a bunch of young, windfallen trees, which is a sign that the topsoil has only been recently developed.
I always wonder if there are a couple of caves in the area. In a park a couple of kilometers away a few have been found, so who knows!
There are a couple of big arbutus Patch's (groves?) on the way up as well. They always remind me of how I imagined magical forests to look like. I half expected to come.across a spooky hut with smoke coming from the chimney.
At the top it started raining and the view was less than spectacular. Still had my tea, though.
I did not bring treats for Moe.
