Tichborne, Ontario, Canada
I took this photo of a wetland near my sister's camp in Tichborne, Ontario. The camp is called Camp Oconto. It is an all-girls summer camp that is the sister camp to Camp KIlcoo, where I used to go. My sister started going here when she was 9 years old. She would go for a month every July, and unlike me, she still continues to go to this day. Although, once she was old enough, she put in her time as a counsellor in training, a full counsellor, a section head, eventually to being in charge of all of the section heads if I remember correctly. She also was in charge of tripping one summer. So she had to plan the routes and logistics of the canoe trips of all cabins, which I think is pretty cool!
Not that it wouldn't be fun to still go to camp in cottage country, but I used to ask my sister why she still goes back. The pay isn't very good, and it takes a month away from her summer. She told me the reason she goes back is that she loves being a role model for the young girls. She said she loves helping them learn more about themselves, and about seeing them grow as individuals. I think she also likes to give back to the camp that made her the woman she is today. She sure makes me a proud brother.
