The various landscapes around Antarctica are simply majestic and make your heart soar, regardless, of your current emotional state. Whether you be completely tired and feeling emotional stagnate, a simple look around at your surroundings when you are experience this region will ensure you stop and feel nothing short of gratitude and appreciation of where it is you actually are.
I spent quite a bit of time on this island during the last summer season, which is in the South Shetland Islands and is called Deception Island. It is an old whaling station that only shut down in the 1930's, when the cost of whale blubber was not worth the cost of obtaining it. Sadly, it came down making not enough money that shut it down, not the morality of slaughtering countless marine mammals and their unbelievable population decline.
Now, it is a place to explore for the various tourist expeditions that frequent the Antarctic peninsula during the summer period.
