The mower and I haven't been getting along this year, and my yard is large, Spring was late and suddenly my yard is out of control, grass, weeds, pine cones, pine needles.. It is a job bigger than I want to do.
Simple problem I think to myself, I will place a local ad for someone to mow and rake the yard.
So, I place the ad and sit expectantly near the phone.. Nothing.
I place more ads in more places..
Still simple, I think to myself I up the value of the job, and include in the ad I am willing to negotiate, in case I have fallen out of touch with the current price of "Lawn Labor".
I finally get the job arranged with a gentleman down the road. Whew, I think to myself, as we have company coming on Saturday. His lawn mower is broken until next week.
Back to the drawing board.
A commitment, and a no show.
Steve calls, he has a DUI, but if I can wait until Noon, his mom will drive him and his equipment over.
Oh boy, this sounds risky, but what the heck, I need the lawn mowed after all.
Steve doesn't show up. I bet his Mom screwed it up for him somehow.
Now what?
Hmm, I think to myself, I will suck it up and call the two professional landscape companies in my neighborhood.
Not even a call back.
I think the issue is in my small town everyone is either solidly middle class or on Public Assistance. No one is looking for work. Teens apparently don't mow lawns in this neighborhood for reasons unknown to me.
I know if I was reading this I would wonder what the ad says.
"Spring Cleaning Needed for my lawn: Raking and Mowing needed in (Neighborhood Name). Contact information
In the price line I listed $150.00 or negociate. "
I'm stumped.
I'm headed out to see if I can get the mower started..
