…continued… from part 1
When you are a leader and you live for impact, it is easier to get noticed but we sometimes want to get noticed and yet think holding a prominent position would make that obvious. Some people are so power drunk for them to work on themselves. They do all to get noticed and yet they don’t have the substance to sustain it which is why you see someone you feel would be a wonderful leader, and after getting there, you are filled with regret for vouching for such person in the first place. Leadership is much more than a popularity contest.
Leaders are not born but leaders are made. Sometimes, we think leadership is the birthright of some while the others are just to sit down and look. Leaders are made and it is about your character and passion. Everyone that became a leader followed a passion and if you passionately follow or pursue your dreams or goals, it will surely give birth to leadership and you will have people willing to help with that dream by following you.
No one wants to follow those who don’t know where they are going or those who wouldn’t have a direct impact on them. Leaders are made and you should never become an onlooker. Even if you are following another, you can still lead others even from behind; where you are. As I said earlier, people will naturally follow a leader who knows what he or she is doing and also knows where he or she is going. Leaders sell their passion and dreams with others so they can also run with it. You need to find your purpose and pursue it rigorously. You should make a difference where you are. You should never be a secondary character in your life’s story. A leader is in you and if you don’t engage it, you can’t influence others positively.
Leadership is not a position but it is an attitude. Whoever you are, regardless of your position or background, if you take on the attitude of a leader, you will lead others. We should also never forget that there are those who are in leadership positions but they are not ‘leading’ others. Having a leadership attitude means you know what it takes to lead.
