In my opinion, the entire television reconstruct of 20th century american social endeavor is a fiction. The use of internet research to fix the story is another rewrite of history, just like we had in the decade after WWII. Most of that war was to destroy known history up to that point in time.
Take note of the disappeared global superstars of the period. From Steiner to Schauberberger, Walter Russell, Gurdgieff and Ouspenski, Rife, Reich, even Nikolai Tesla. Current cognitive dissonance hides concepts under verbiage. Words mean exactly what i think they mean, where i is i the reader, and truth becomes obfuscated.
There are two sides to every story, black and white. It is only after we colorize the image that red flags and blue dreams move in to elaborate. Occam's Razor should help shave the possibilities, but unless we can recreate the times, we just cannot know.
All we can do is know, weigh, then say no way to the modern presentation of the time of our lives.
