As much as I like this ThinkPad, when you take shipping into account, a new battery for it will be at least 50$ from what it seems. And that is for a used battery (or a knockoff, but I am not getting another one after this one just ballooned on me after like a year of use). I am just not quite sure I can justify that when IIRC I paid around 100$ for the entire laptop.
I could I suppose just snag another T430s and take the battery, either keeping the new one as a spare, parts machine or some kind of server, but I'm not sure. It may be that I simply have to move away from the T430s. But all that depends on if I can find anything else cheap. I think the regular T430 (non s model) used 18650 cells so getting that I could just replace them if the battery grows tired, but from what I have read the battery controller sometimes just decided to kill your battery if you do that, and sometimes not.
So, while I do want to see it revived, I am not sure it is worth it to get a battery for it. At the same time, I am not sure I can afford to really spend the money to get another one, I mean, I can, but I am not sure if it's a good idea. I got the laptop with the battery from a reseller. Of course i can't know that it was a new battery like they said, but when it arrived it did say 100% battery health in KDE so seemed like it, and then relatively quickly fell down to 66% over the course of a few months where it stopped dropping. Plus, the green cell battery from a reliable and trusted source in my country is like 49$ plus shipping.
