Collection Highlights - 1925 Stone Mountain Half/50C
I am back with my final piece that I acquired from my friend in the middle of December. This is one that I did not have before and I thought it had really nice details. I have not started to get into commemorative half dollars before so I was excited to snag this one. I think it looks a little better in person, the pictures came out quite flat but I think it has a bit more shine than the picture show. I had a really hard time grading this, my typical go to source of pcts there's a lot of images but it appears that my coin has little to nowhere on any of the fields that I was comparing against, I'll still having a bit more aware on the general background of the coin. I feel that compared to most of the photos I found online I have a tremendous amount of detail on the jacket faces of the two men. I wonder if these struggled with four strengths that didn't strike well and it dies wore out where maybe I have an early strike with where that has more details than a late strike with no there.
It looks like they made an odd number please at 1,314,709. They were 90% silver and have a nice reading edge. All in all that mintage is a large enough amount to still have plenty left her collectors how about varieties and grades while not having an endless supply.
Obverse
I think this is a pretty good change for what I'm used to seeing. While I typically don't like coins of celebrate politicians, I will give it a pass for military leaders. This one be changed Robert e Lee and still won't Jackson he's going to Confederate armies. I think it has a great amount of detail in the horses and the men and all politics aside I like the imagery hope military men and horseback inspecting the troops.
Reverse
Like all good money we have to have the patriotic call. We have a stunning eagle sitting on top of the Stone mountain with the word Liberty underneath. It's also a nice memorial to The valor of the soldiers of the South. I think this is one of the better eagles, I don't often see one standing with its wings spread that looks like it's about ready to take flight. This one certainly works just take and it has a lot of great details. Not much could be left off this round without taking away some of his beauty, all the same time anything else added I think would make it too busy
