About a week ago I was speaking to a friend at work about our crypto investments when he mentioned egold. Heās been balls deep into this project for a while now and done pretty well from it. As far as I was concerned I had missed the boat with egold, which, at the time of our conversation, was trading at around $370 and still climbing.
So, there he was, shilling his favourite token to me when he mentioned that there was an upcoming lottery tied to egold in which you could win a nice chunk of a token named Holoride. This was a no-lose lottery involving a token with quite an enticing project.
The product behind the Holoride token is an in-car entertainment system utilising VR tech in conjunction with the natural motion and environment of the vehicle youāre travelling in.
The companies and developers behind this project are as big as they come. Audi. Disney. Palmer Luckey (The founder of the VR Oculus system). The Russo Brothers (American film and TV directors best known for their four installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019). The list goes on.
As you can imagine, I became quite interested in the idea of getting my hands on some Holoride tokens before they became available on the Maiar exchange. My friend informed me that all I needed to do was get myself a Maiar wallet, buy and stake a minimum of 1 egold token, complete a simple kyc form, and then wait for the opportunity to purchase a lottery ticket which could win me 2000 Ride tokens! Simple.
Over the next couple of days I successfully completed all these tasks and yesterday received confirmation that with the amount I had staked I was eligible to purchase 1 lottery ticket. Winner winner, chicken dinner! Or so I thoughtā¦
After waiting all afternoon for the lottery tickets to become available to buy, it finally hit 3pm UTC. Like Charlie buying his bar of chocolate in the hope of finding a golden ticket, I excitedly grabbed my phone and logged into the Maiar launchpad website.
WTF!
No, this canāt be right? But I received confirmation, it must be a glitch. I know, Iāll go to the telegram group chat and see if I can find out whatās going onā¦
Oh my god! The proverbial shit sandwiches are being served for dinner and it looks like I have my seat reserved. Just my bloody luck!
With no answers coming from the admin and the only people contacting me being scammers trying to convince me via dm that they can sort out the problem, if only I follow the link and provide my seed phrase, I am still none the wiser as to whatās gone wrong. All I can assume is that the number of participants far outweighed the capabilities of the staff employed to facilitate the lottery.
Nonetheless, I had some fun with one of the scammers while waiting for answers in the chat forumā¦
Sorry for the colourful language above but scammers are just something I canāt abide. Anyway, I needed to blow off some steam and who better to direct it at than someone like that š¤·āāļø
As I sit here now typing out this post, I no longer feel frustrated, just disappointed at missing out on what seemed like a great chance to become an early investor. āCe la vieā, as the french would say, and there was never any guarantee of winning the lottery anyway. Besides, I guess Iām still in a good position for when the Ride token appears on the Maiar exchange, so all isnāt lost quite yet.
But for all the many folk out there who got screwed over in the Holoride lottery today, I give you thisā¦
One more thing before I say farewellā¦
One good thing came out of all this and I thought it would be nice to share it with others like me who are still getting to grips with all things crypto.
As I was navigating my way through the Holoride webpages, I came across a fantastic guide to all things blockchain. Here is an A to Z which explains everything from mining to NFTs, and everything in between. It a fantastic compilation of videos and descriptions that will have the noobiest of noobs turning a profit in no time.
Enjoy this to your hearts content!
