A number of states have pursued lawsuits against opioid manufacturers and others involved in the industry.

Just recently, Nevada successfully reached a settlement of $45 million for that crisis that is 6x more than the state is likely to have received if they had settled with other states.

It's alleged that opioid manufacturers were taught how to target high-volume prescribers and try to maximize profits for those opioids by getting physicians to prescribe more opioids to people.

Nevada like other regions has been hard hit by the crisis and had many in the region struggle or lose their life because of an opioid addiction.

This is one of many settlements that has been seen for states like Nevada, West Virginia, or Washington, they've all seen millions of dollars in settlements over this issue.

West Virginia companies are expected to pay over $1.25 billion to try and settle those lawsuits.

There are more than 430,000 deaths in the last couple of decades that have taken place in the U.S. because of opioid use.

Indiana, Kentucky, California, and other regions, each of these states have seen tens or hundreds of millions in damages awarded because of that fight over the opioid crisis. It has meant that companies like Purdue and others have had to financially acknowledge their contribution to the problem.
