After nearly 36 years in business as the one-stop-shop and online resource for high-tech professionals across nine states and 31 stores, Fry’s Electronics, Inc. (“Fry’s” or “Company”), has made the difficult decision to shut down its operations and close its business permanently as a result of changes in the retail industry and the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Company will implement the shut down through an orderly wind down process that it believes will be in the best interests of the Company, its creditors, and other stakeholders.
Why is another business I love being crushed by all this madness? Why can't Facebook, Google, Microsoft, or Amazon feel some pain? It's truly sad to see this one go. Walking in to Fry's giant warehouse of electronics felt like Toys R Us for geeks. Whenever any of my friends needed something computer or electronics related I could confidently suggest a solution with a single word, "Fry's".
I remember taking trips with friends and my kids just to look at stuff all day then filling our karts with all the junk food lined up at checkout. I honestly can't remember a time when a Fry's assoicate wasn't friendly or helpful. If I hadn't joined the military and then became a teacher, I could have easily been an employee of Fry's, but that will sadly no longer be an option.
Too bad WallStreetBets didn't help out Fry's like they did GameStop. Which businesses were you sad to see go down during these crazy times? Which are next? Do you have any fond memories of Fry's you'd like to share?
