U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his position that countries dependent on energy transport should take charge of the security of the Strait of Hormuz after the Iran War.
President Trump wrote on his social media Truth Social on the 18th (local time), "I wonder what will happen if countries take responsibility for the Channel after removing the remnants of Iran."
"In that case, some alliances that were unresponsive will move quickly," he said.
This comment seems to be aimed at the passive attitude of European allies toward the escort of merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. asked for cooperation, including the dispatch of warships, but as opposition continued, it was interpreted as raising the level of pressure, emphasizing that the responsibility for controlling the strait could be handed over to allies.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key channel for global oil transport, with major importers of Asian countries and Europe, including Korea, China, and Japan. On the other hand, the United States is less dependent on Middle Eastern crude oil.
As a result, it was analyzed that President Trump expressed the idea that in the long run, the U.S. should step out of the Channel security and that countries with direct interests in oil transport should jointly take responsibility for traffic safety.
On the same day, President Trump also shared a New York Post editorial that said, "The U.S. alliance should come to its senses and help open the Strait of Hormuz," urging the alliance to participate.

"He should be paying for the harm inflicted on us, yet he brazenly pushes the responsibility of damage control onto us. Perhaps the true issue is the self‑proclaimed far‑right groups, utterly devoid of conscience."
