For Actuaries, our major aim is minimizing risk at all cost. Not only are we interested in restoring a victim(insured) back to their usual financial state, we also aim at protecting the victim from any unforeseen circumstances. That is why we are very happy when measures are put in place to minimize or prevent this unforeseen circumstances. Remember, the insurance company can indemnify a victim but he or she might not be fully restored back to his or her previous state be it financial or health wise.

Fire is one of the things that can easily cause a loss in a particular geographical area. One major cause of fire outbreaks is domestic gas explosions. It is very good we pay much attention to the gas cylinders wuthin our kitchens. The have the potential of being the main casue of catastrophic loss.

I was astonished and perplexed when I walked past one hostel on campus. You will not believe what I saw. For the first time I saw this gas cylinder outside of the building. It was safely locked in a metal cage to prevent theft.

I liked what I saw. Although it has once come to mind, I did not know I would eventually encounter one. A person so conscious of his or her safety that he will come up with such a great innovative way of keeping his home safe from any unforeseen circumstances resulting from gas explosion and fire outbreak. This act makes the gas less hazardous to this home and any other property within it. There is very little probability of a gas explosion. There is very little or even no chance of fire outbreak because of this person's act of keeping his gas cylinder outside of the home and placing it at the back of his house.

This person might have taken this action as a result of the presence of kids in the house. Maybe his kids are very difficult and very inquisitive. We know how these kids behave when we are not around. They might even switch it on without knowing what it is or just figuring it. Very curious kids are very troublesome and eyes need to be on them as often as possible, in fact at all times or else trouble. The slightest chance they get they want to explore. You will be shocked to discover the kinds of things these kids do in the absence of a guardian or parent.

Or probably the individual himself is careless. Maybe he knows he is the carefree type. He does not take things so carefully and easily forget things. He thinks it is better for him to keep the gas cylinder out of reach to prevent any damage that might have come out as a result of his own carelessness. So probably to prevent any disgrace, let me avoid it. That sounds funny.

On the contrary, it thinks this guy is far from being careless. I only used it as an example. I used it as a probable reason for him to act in such a rational way. I believe this person is more careful than we could ever imagine. Taking this decision proves that.

But the only problem I have with it is the fact that it is exposed to the general public. It would have been better if it was done in a wall fenced house. That way you won’t get the exposure of a bad intentioned individual who might just come and destroy it or even intentionally light fire into it and disappear. You may not know who your enemy is. So as much as you try hiding sometime from others because of the harm it may cause, be careful who you are exposing it to at the other side.

Overall, I think this is a great way to minimize the hazard posed by this energy we have at our various homes. Keeping it outside is one way of staying safe from any fire outbreak that may come internally. I believe if this is adopted in our various homes too, it might go a long way to minimize or even prevent fire outbreaks that may occur from gas explosions. So, I will record this to everyone but just to make sure it is not exposed outside too.

Insurance companies won’t have to come in. There will be loss minimization. Remember, it is our duty to prevent any loss that may occur. Some insurance companies may not indemnify the victim if there is the slightest knowledge of the fact that the victim played a role in the cause of loss of the property. The insurance companies are very vigilant because of the moral and morale hazard that has been happening over the years.

Victims trying to fake all sorts of accidents so they can get indemnified by the insurance companies. The insurance companies have also adopted strategies to prove that the occurrence of a loss of a property or life is truly accidental and unintentional. If it should come out as the victim playing a mind game, and actually could have put measures in place to prevent a loss but then did not, then sorry to say, you are in a very big mess.
