There are numerous characteristics that give the Amazonas state a global importance: it is part of the South American Amazon, part of the world's plant lung; It has a very varied ethnological and ethnographic culture as well as a rich archaeological heritage; it forms a reservoir of botanical diversity, from which more than half of the remedies known to man come, and from which perhaps the cure of diseases that hit our times may come; its fauna, in addition to having species that do not exist anywhere else, is known and admired; and, finally, its geographical formations are unique in the world.
This state in the south of Venezuela that is part of the Guayanés Shield, is synonymous with mystery and megadiversity, the birthplace of the imposing Orinoco (the third largest river in the planet), it is possessor of a huge variety of natural beauties with unique features in the world and of an infinite biological diversity. Majestic tropical rainforests, large and extensive savannas, imposing mountain ranges, extensive and rapid rivers, impressive waterfalls and rapids, and formations of sandstone and plateau-shaped quartzites known as "Tepuyes" emerge from this extraordinary region. Its geological formations of Precambrian origin are among the oldest on the planet, with an age of 3,500 million years, whose basement is formed by igneous metamorphic and granitic rocks - called Granitic Complex Amazonas
