Probably, by the time we get our planet all figured out we, as a species, will get to witness some cosmic event in the face of which we will be as powerless as we are know when confronted to natural disasters.

This is aligned with a claim I once heard that natural disasters maintain some sort of balance between humans and resources. So if one day we got our planet figured out, there would be another force to maintain that balance.
