I was paying at Coles check-out a couple of days ago and was asked if I wanted to donate to the Drought Appeal for the Farmers? My first response was; Does my money go to the farmers? A reasonable question don't you think? This cynicism comes from my knowledge of donated money being redirected into administration costs etc to the detriment of the cause.
It is not possible to give directly to a farmer and we all would if we could. I would.
There is so much hardship for the farmers in a number of Australian States experiencing the never ending drought in the western areas. The very sad part to this story is that rain has fallen on some properties and not on many others. Water is so needed on the land, without it the earth dries up and the cattle still need feeding. It all costs money. The scenes that show on the News let the Australian people the know of the farmer's struggle for surviving. They are running out of money.
The National fund raising to give to the Drought Appeal has taken off big time. No-one wants a farmer to go under to a Bank's foreclosure. I am not sure how much is raised but if everyone gives money it has to be beneficial for the farmers.
People helping people is a magnificent thing to do. National spirit is rising. Everyone I talk to support this fund raising.
We need the farmers!

Cheers
Have a happy day.
