After 9-11, New York pedestrians started finding envelopes. They were on park benches, taped to subway windows, and suspended in trees at the parks.
The person would find a happy or uplifting note, a sweet drawing, or a couple dollars with "smile while you enjoy a coffee :)"
What started out as a few people wanting to do what they could, anything they could, to make sense of the chaos and perhaps bring a small ray of sunshine into a fellow mourners day, turned into a grassroots campaign and hundreds of these notes were found around the city as more and more people joined in.
Think of this as you go about your week. What can you do to brighten someone's day?
