Thanks for the post. It's one of those that sums up what many of us feel, but few say.
A civilized society is one that is obligated to take care of its own.. especially of its weakest and most vulnerable and downtrodden. We are our brother's keepers... to a point.
I would really like to see the county poor farm come back. I think the time may be right, with the new wave of high density agriculture crashing in right now. Work hard, eat well, climb the ladder to where you want to go. With people to help you along the way.
The hard part comes when you get into those with disabilities, whether they be physical or mental. Sometimes it's hard to tell if they are real or faked.. circumstantial, or deserved from abborant behavior. There will always be those who will game the system... we just have to minimize that.
I'm not sure about the voting... maybe if you hadn't paid taxes in the last four years or something.. but that's a pretty sacred right for us. I don't even think felons should have their voting rights stripped.
