The RAC has criticised a leading police officer’s suggestion that the UK should introduce a zero-tolerance policy on speeding.
West Mercia police’s chief constable, Anthony Bangham, said forces should stop giving drivers a small margin of leeway for speeding, but the RAC says the proposal ‘doesn't seem sensible’.
At present, many police forces follow the National Police Constable Council guidelines, which recommend that drivers should be prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit by 10 percent plus 2mph. However, this is only a guideline and officers are not obliged to apply this rule.
Speaking at the Police Federation Roads Policing Conference, Bangham said: ‘[The public] need to understand the law is set at the limit for a reason. They should not come whingeing to us about getting caught. If booked at 35 or 34 or 33mph [in a 30mph zone] that cannot be unfair because they are breaking the law.'

The RAC, however, said the introduction of such a policy would penalise ‘law-abiding’ drivers who mistakenly drift slightly over the limit.
Pete Williams, the RAC’s road safety spokesman said: ‘While speed is clearly a contributory factor in many road accidents and there is no question that drivers should obey the speed limit, it doesn't seem sensible to make motorists constantly look at their speedometers for fear of drifting a few miles an hour above the limit.
‘Surely, the police's focus should be on tackling those who exceed the speed limit consistently, and, or excessively, as they present the greatest road safety risk. It seems very wrong to penalise law-abiding motorists who may occasionally go very slightly above the limit.
‘Speed awareness courses have helped many motorists understand the importance of safe speeds. These should continue to be part of the solution, and forces should not be in a hurry to load fines and penalty points onto drivers who may well be mistakenly making a small error.’

So in respect of this lets have a look at what we should really have 0 tolerance on, police brutality, deaths in custody, racism, intimidation, bullying, deception, lying, allowing evidence to go missing and covering things up, falsifying evidence, twisting things what people say, forcing confessions this list is endless. If we the public did that NO quarter would be shown to us. We have repeatedly seen the beating of unarmed people peacefully protesting their cause. We know the police escalate these situations, the continuous misuse of the law and in many cases not fully understanding the laws and even cherry picking parts of the law and putting them together in an order that is untrue… oh Wait thats lying or is that deception?
The police should not have the ability to be shielded or hide from their actions they are public servants the same laws should apply to all, no one can be above the law if you can then the whole concept of law has to be brought into question, if a group of people are allowed to speed and another is not this cannot be a law because it is not applying to all, a law allowes no acceptions, then rules are less ridged and acts and statutes are only given the force of law by consent, (dodgy ground here but this is my understanding)
Please remember this YOU ARE PUBLIC servants you serve us not corporations, WE the tax payer pay your wages if how ever the POLICE FORCE are private companies then you have no business with us. Are you Piece officers or are or POLICY (POL-IC-E) enforcers, enforcers of policies for companies and act as private thug squad that has the monopoly of force and who are armed that we are not allowed to defend ourselves against, if we try we will be beaten and caged and have then as many charges and breaches of supposed laws brought against us, yet in many cases the POLICE FORCE yes the word force (dictionary definition of force Coercion or compulsion, especially with the use or threat of violence, https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/force) if you wish to me more PC the POLICE SERVICE. OK we really must have a look at this word service.

As I was saying in many cases the POLICE FORCE seems to be above the law.
But I digress, the long and the short of my point is about the above article is that before the police start looking at 0 tolerance for victimless crimes such as speeding (easy money for them) when they address the issues and corruption with their own organisation then look outside and try and make the world a better place, we know the police use very trick in the book to fine us and steal our property cage us they behave more like dare I say like a crime syndicate. Until the time the police sort their own house out they will carry a largely low respect rate among the public. Then again it is probably well earned disrespect.
