If you are like me, you don't have the time to sit around and wait for the mail carrier to deliver that package you are waiting for that requires a signature. So to lend a helping hand I have numbered and circled areas on on a PS Form 3849(the slip you will be left in your box or at your door if missed your carrier) that will allow re-delivery without your presence. There are many other items on the form, but I don't want to overwhelm you with too many products and services at once. We will focus on packages that require a signature. The carrier will fill out the side pictured below.
Circle #1 will be check-marked, and Circle #5 will be filled with a tracking or article number, and will have a combination of numbers and letters.
One of the following will also be check-marked:
Circle #2. It is a registered package. Usually these come from foreign countries
Circle #3. It is an insured package above a dollar amount that doesn't require a signature.
Circle #4. The Sender has requested that you or an agent(someone you designate) sign for the package.
Now that you know you have a package that needs a signature, let's move to the backside of the form, and I will show you what needs to be filled out to have your item redelivered without you present.
Check the box in #6 and #7, and Sign in #8. Also please print your name underneath. That way the carrier can scan the bar code and capture the signature on the scanner. If you sign on the left, under number two you will still have to be present.
Put this notice in your outgoing mail box. Hope this helps.
