So it's the weekend and it's the time I would normally do my groceries shopping.
Malaysia is known for exporting agro products to places like China or neighbouring countries. Now since the widespread of the Corona virus, a lot of these exports halted.
This made exporters stuck with supplies which is then required to sell locally. Therefore, we do have an oversupply of local produce like Watermelon.
Normal price per kilogram was close to RM2 or USD 0.50 per kg. Due to an over supply they have cut the price by 50% which brings it to about RM1 per kilogram.
As you can see the a seedless watermelon of 4.7 kg only cost less then Rm5 which is about USD 1.2
It may seem great however as time goes on, we may start seeing a shortage as with these prices, it may not be able to sustain operational cost for the entire supply chain.
Also a lot of supply chain has been disrupted due to Covid-19 virus. South East Asia largest industry which is tourism has been hit extremely bad causing hotels and restaurants to start throwing crazy promotions just to get people to come.
Here was a clear example of these kind of promotions. I would not be surprise if this continues on this restaurant may require to shut down.
Already a few of my friends which had to suddenly stop going to work for a whole week because 1 individual had Covid-19 virus and they had to shutdown the entire building they were working in.
I've no idea whats going to happen next however, life goes on and we do try not to let covid-19 fears effect too much of our daily routines however it's getting tougher and tougher as reality is kicking in.
Will a vaccine be available soon?? I really hope so and with the raining season coming in, more people would be getting the common flu which may be misdiagnose for covid-19.
Best option is to stay healthy and to minimize large crowded space.
Cheers and have a good weekend to you all.
