Had little Dex at the vet again today. The vet removed his drain and upgraded him to a larger cone. The vet said everything looks good right now, so Dex is well on his way to a full recovery. He will still probably have a nasty scar when this is all done but him healing well is a bit more important than that. Since Dex has such a long body he was able to reach around his cone and lick the stitches, which defeats the purpose of him wearing a cone. So we asked the vet for a larger one, hopefully this one keeps him from licking now.
A closer look at the wound and stitches. The vet said that the small hole left by the drain will heal on it's own and that the redness around the wound is normal and we should only be concerned if it worsens. The stitches won't come out until the end of next week.
He's a bit sad having to keep his cone on but mostly it doesn't irritate him so assuming we don't have any issues with this cone, Dex should make a nice recovery now.
