Since the 1950's we've had this weird way of gendering babies through the colors of blue and pink. Blue for boys and pink for girls. But did you know that before WWII it was the opposite? And even more before that they were unisex? The concept of blue and pink being assigned to babies is actually pretty new, as people used to feel a bit uncomfortable about placing a gender on a baby. Gender color wasn't even a concept for the majority of our history. Before the age of 7, there were no gender clothes for children, it was all unisex. Even dresses! Which explains all the pictures of baby Franklin D. Roosevelt in a dress when he was a child. And now that that's coming back today all the crazy people of society are losing their minds.

Back to the topic; pink and blue were just baby colors when they started out being used. Pink could be boy and blue could be for girls and vice-versa. The only factor that seemed to correlate was hair color. Brunettes would be in pink and blondes in blue. I've spoken about the color blue before but I don't think I ever talked about its meaning. It's a more calm and welcoming color, while pink is more outspoken and in your face. It was for these reasons that blue eventually became used for little girls, and pink for little boys.

There are actually a few unknown statements as to why the switch happened. Some say it was Hitler who decided to make pink a color for gay people and girls, but another statement reflects more of the war itself. Because of the militaries choice of color. Darker colors became the norm for more masculine while lighter colors became the feminine. So the two colors for babies switched and became more permanent. Pink for girls and blue for boys. It's funny that now when people in the world are trying to get rid of these norms and slowly going the ways of the 1800's people are freaking out over it and calling it ungodly.
