Hey friends,
Long time no see!
Lots of things have been changing in my world rather quickly since last week.
To sum them up, here's some updates:
Last Monday
and I launched
, Steemit's Hospitality Exchange Platform! With incredible response from the community, most of my steemit time has been towards that platform.
That same evening my fella came home from his work trip to the east coast, officially ending my month of living alone in the yurt 🙌
Two days later, Austin got a call from an arboretum + nature center he had been remodeling in Tennessee. They offered him a great position on staff!
We talked it through, we took the job and we are moving to Tennessee!
Then, my laptop died!
All of these things together are why I have been a bit absent from my online community as of late. I have been working with to edit and look over some posts he put together for the
account, but have been off of my personal account for a hot minute.
My apologies to you all for the sudden lack of appearance and interaction here on steemit. I promise to be back on track as soon as possible.
I hope that by mentioning my personal reasons for the disengagement, it can help bring awareness that sometimes other things in life come up, and it is perfectly alright to prioritize your life according to your needs.
Since the job offer, we have been spending our time sorting through all of our belongings in the yurt, deciding what we can afford to bring with us. Luckily, we have been able to make a deal on purchasing an extra vehicle from the land here, meaning we have begun planning our cross country drive.
I've only spent about half a year total living outside of Oregon. I spent three months of 2013 studying abroad in Italy, and five months of '16-'17 living & traveling in Australia and Europe. In relation to these, this move to Tennessee has the potential of being a longer term opportunity and a big change of pace for both of us.
We are really looking forward to the opportunity to work for something that aligns with our ethics + interests while being close to family at the same time. We love living in the yurt but lacking work opportunities and ability to build on the land as we would like has been prodding us to seek opportunity elsewhere. This job is at a nonprofit arboretum, botanical garden and nature center. Not only is it right up our alley, the connections and skills we can gain through this opportunity are abundant.
We are still looking to make a garden when we move, and have recently been tossing around the idea of building our own traveling home. A tiny portable home to hold our goods and shelter us whether we are stationary or on the road? Yes, please.
There will be lots of adventure to share with my steemit fam, so I will happily be keeping up with this blog.
I will be updating from my phone mostly, as we will be on the road shortly and-- as I tragically mentioned previously-- the laptop has decided it's permanently napping.
I will continue to look after the curation account and write up the detailed instructions for creating #kin-shep requests and offers soon. That's my next online project.
Otherwise, I will be spending most of my time trying to meet up with friends, packing, and planning our road trip. We are looking for good spots to camp out along the way so we can stay close to the little truck carrying our material lives-- if you've got any good suggestions let us know!
That's all for now! Till next time,
