It's a fabulous concept! It inspires improvement without losing the essence that sets us apart from others. What makes us unique.
As I write the above, as a good obsessive I wonder:
What differentiates us from others?
Why am I me?
I´m just the sum of all my experiences?
It is impossible for two people to live the same sequence of experiences. Even in a laboratory, in a controlled enviroment, if we tried to replicate the same experiences in two or more newborns it would be impossible. The same stimulations can be assimilated in a completely different way. Bodies are different.
From conception our DNA condemns us to be unique.
Impossible to replicate another being like us.
We could say that if we were all perfect, without limits we would be the identical. We would have a collective thought, unified and without disagreement; without variety of opinion. Our limits are the best way to differentiate ourselves from the other. That is why others are important.
Source All this variety of eyes do basically the same thing. But more specific to each situation and form of survival.
Variety is what allowed life to adapt to the most efficient version for each and every one of the different climates, latitudes and geographies. The variety is the same in nature as in the different ways of processing the information that each and every one of us has.
Life seeks to adapt and surpass itself. Although unfortunately the purpose of nature as an "unconscious" entity cannot be compatible with ours. Nature also builds with specism and death, associating it with us seems at least... Dangerous?
Knowing that perfection is an unattainable and indefinable ideal. What should our individual goal be? Success? Happiness? Legacy? Altruism?
If we consider our individuality, each one of us is going to choose one, the other or a little of all. But always in a lesser or bigger way, always in a new, fresh, different and UNIQUE way!
So, should we aim to be the best version of oneself? Or would it be better to propose a goal to you and pursue it?
I dare say that we have no choice, everything we decide for our lives passes through our experiences. There is no way we can make a decision that escapes the information we assimilate.
So deciding where we grow up is part of a destiny, part biological, part construction that we build with our peers.
