To this day, I can’t seem to understand what makes alcoholic drinks more expensive than carbonated drinks. It’s a good thing that I don’t fancy a glass of wine or a can of beer otherwise I may go broke with the way the cost of booze is now even in groceries.
I realized how steep the pricing is when I went to the grocery store. A specific brand recreated an alcoholic apple cider drink into a non-alcoholic version. A pack of 3 cans of the alcoholic version is priced at $10.40 while the 4-can pack of the non-alcoholic version is only priced at $7.10!!!
I used to like this specific brand but I stopped drinking alcoholic drinks several years ago. It was a good decision considering the amount of increase that had happened.
I was on the brink of adding a pack of non-alcoholic apple cider to my grocery cart when I realized it was just one of the sugary drinks. Remembering my goal of reducing my sugar intake has kicked in the right moment otherwise I would have bagged this home.
My curiosity about the taste has almost led me to buy this stuff. It's good that I managed to control myself and prevent myself from buying this drink. It may taste fizzy and sweet but I'm not into it anymore so I'm glad that I skipped on this one.
I guess it's the company's way of diversifying its product to remain relevant. With the rise in the prices of other commodities, a >$3++ apple cider drink is no longer a practical spend for a typical household and even for young professionals.
I would rather buy something that will fill me in the right or invest it in something worthwhile. Cheers!
