Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow my posts.
Today we continued our journey down the coast to the quaint town of Paraty. This picturesque little town is full of cobbled streets and colourful colonial buildings.
Paraty is home to around 40,000 people and is located on the Costa Verde (which translates to "The Green Cost"). More than 80% of the land here is protected.
It seems as though you've gone back in time wandering around the streets here. There are horse and carts to get around these narrow streets. We did spot this broken down car that looks like it had been here a while.
There are many great restaurants in Paraty serving the days fresh fish for the various tourists that visit here. In fact the name Paraty is from the native Tupi language. When translated it means river of fish.
At one end of the town there were inlets for the sea water to come in. I'd asked one of the locals why this was and he told me it was designed to let the sea water wash the streets. It seemed to me like it left a muddy residue over the roads, and flooded. The actual design has not been improved in hundreds of years.
