Hello People,
Another person that gave me a tremendous amount of value from this seminar was Chatri Sityodtong, CEO of ONE Championship.
When he was younger, his dad abandoned the family and disowned him. His mother had to take care of two sons on her own. It was terrible, but that motivated him to work extremely hard to support his mother and his brother. Fortunately, somehow he managed to get into Harvard and scored himself a great job. He climbed the corporate ladder and reached the multi-millionaire mark when he was 32 years old. Feel free to read more about his life here.
He pointed out a good difference between Asian culture and the Western culture. In Asia, failures are often frowned upon. Parents, relatives, and friends will judge you because of your failures. Hence, Asians are less willing to experiment with stuff and fail fast.
Whereas, in Western countries, not only that they don't judge failures, they still embrace it very much. Westerners are more motivated to keep trying and not they will not be demoralized by setbacks.
He was trying to spread the message that failures just indicate that there are still rooms for improvement.
Fail fast and improve fast, success will be just around the corner!
Allow me to share with you some of his words of wisdom!
5 key success factors:
- Love
- Mentorship
- Greatness
- Improve 1% per day
- Warrior
Chatri shared this with us, "If I were to pay you $100million to do something you hate the most until the day you die, you will most likely refuse to do it."
Life is all about finding something you truly love, go against all odds to overcome obstacles just to create something of value to people in this world.
If you do not love what you do, you will give up easily and when you give up, you won't achieve greatness.
2. Mentorship
Many have said that smart people learn from their mistakes but the wiser ones learn from other's mistakes. The same thing can be said about successes. All you have to do is to look for someone who is already achieving the success you desire and learn the tactics and strategies to achieve that. You will save a lot on time & money. That's why mentorship is extremely essential.
3. Greatness
If you want to become a lion, surround yourself with lions. You're the average of 5 people you hang out with. If you want to achieve greatness, you have to surround yourself with greatness. Meet new people and attend more events to network. That's how you can come out of your comfort zone!
4. Improve 1% each day
Chatri often reminds his team, "All you have to do is to be better than yesterday. Improve 1% each day!"
If you have done 1 push up today, do 2 push-ups the next day, 3 on the following day and 4. By having such progressive improvement, the compounding effect is truly impactful.
5. Warrior
This is the most important element. Without this warrior spirit in you, you are unable to execute the other 4 factors. Be emotionally and mentally strong that you are unstoppable. Keep up with self-education.
"Live a life that lits up your soul"
He ended his speech with this video.
