I have "been away from Steemit" for a few days.
The reason: We have had an assortment of house guests staying with us since last Friday.
One of our local lighthouses
Don't get me wrong, I love our friends and we were happy to welcome them to our home, but there are few things like having strangers living in your house that can throw off a well-oiled routine.
At least that holds true for me.
There is something "disturbing" about having someone else living in the house, no matter how temporary, or how unobtrusive the guests may be. I don't mean "disturbing" in a distressful way... just in the way it causes you to be "aware" that someone else is there. In this case, three other people — including one having her 13th birthday during the visit.
Maybe it's just a fact of "growing older" that we start growing attached to having things our way, and we like to follow our routines as we've learned they fit us best.
I say this... and yet I remember clearly that I would quickly grow tired of having friends stay, even when I was in my 20's.
Mrs. Denmarkguy and I both tend to be somewhat solitary souls.

I suppose there are ultimately upsides and downsides to having house guests-- just like there are to most things in life.
We did have some really fun times, and we went out and "did things" far more than we usually do. The birthday celebration was cool and went well... as well as can be expected with a freshly baked teenager.
To some degree, it was also a chance to "play tourists" in our own town-- something we (and most local people) rarely do. So that's a plus.
Ironically, one of our guests was the widow of our recently passed away friend Kelly who originally introduced me to Steemit. So there was an element of sadness attached to this visit, as well. We spent a fair amount of time sitting around, telling old stories about him.
On the other hand, we're both kind of tired, and feel like we could sleep for ten days! AND now there's the growing backlog of work we both need to catch up with-- since we both work from home.
How about YOU? Do you enjoy having houseguests? Do you find it easy — or more annoying — to have visitors staying in your house? When you go somewhere else, do you prefer to stay at a hotel, or stay with friends? What do you like best about having people visit? And least? Leave a comment-- share your experiences-- be part of the conversation!
