Those who know me well understand that I strongly dislike the telephone. I find it invasive and disruptive. I equate the invention of the device with social evil.
Less than 100 years ago, personal communication required personal interaction. I live in a setting void of almost all personal contact. Frequently I can exist for 4 to 10 days without speaking.
This is possible by using the ‘caller ID’ display on my phone. By previewing the number I know if I want to accept the call.
Through the use of personal ring tones, I choose how often I allow noise interruptions.
Telephone technology will eventually eliminate the need for telemarketing.
