So in yesterday’s post I mentioned I was thinking of starting a series for the purpose of my grands and my greats. Children that is. I've spent a little time considering how I might structure it, and I believe I will do some separate segments. Today's will be the first of the Ovid Covid Chronicles.
Who here wouldn’t be interested in their grandparent or great grandparent’s accounting of the 1920’s depression for instance? To know what was going on in their thoughts and their daily lives?
I will also do segments on my past, days and specific times of my life, but today...Corona.
April 1, 2020
The world is on pause. Not just the United States but the entire planet. And the enemy causing this? It’s invisible. Yup, invisible. Really, really hard to defeat invisible enemies guys. I thought it was going to be outer space invaders that joined global hands, instead a much more believable inner space invader called a virus showed up.

I’m not going to bore you with a definition- you can look it up- but it's a coronavirus, named Covid19, and upwards of seven billion people are cowering in their homes in fear of it. Or at least in fear of breaking the rules that currently state we must cower in our homes.

There are some exceptions to the cowering, while in some places it's full on quarantine where you can't leave your house unless it's an emergency, most of us are dealing with what's called Shelter In Place. In this instance you can leave for what they call "essential business", which here in upstate NY means to buy groceries, to get medicine, pick up hardware to fix things in your homes, put gas in your car to accomplish these tasks...and alcohol...
which...wine, beer, and liquor being essential is sweet! On one hand. But... Schools and colleges are not essential. Neither are Courts and Churches. County Buildings, containing almost all of what we once thought was very important like the department of motor vehicles, the tax department, county records etc are also closed down. There are no events, no sports, no bars or clubs or concerts, and many movies and shows have stopped filming- nothing that requires many people to gather in one place. Which sure, if this is truly a scary killer virus that makes perfect sense. Of course packed grocery stores because- 'shortages'- might defeat the purpose a tiny bit, but hey, we're doing our best I'm told.
We are in a unique position at this time in history. Unique relative to any other time, and that is due to the internet. Unlike our ancestors, staying at home doesn’t mean little to no contact with the outside world. All we need is a Wi-Fi or satellite connection and we can talk to almost anyone we want, anywhere we want on the globe.
We can even see them as we talk with our little video phones. You would think this would help us be less in the dark about what’s happening, but somehow we’re all equally clueless. So far I know two people personally who know of two people they’ve met that have tested positive for the virus. The rest is just numbers and if I could trust the numbers then somewhere around 100,000 people have tested positive in the US (population around 370 million) with a death toll of about 100. So far. I have to add that, because THEY do every time. But I'll also add that most people are not being tested, if they have symptoms they're told to self quarantine unless they need medical attention. Meaning many many more people might have or have had this virus and recover/ed without being recorded.

Considering that a couple weeks before this blew up in the media I had every single symptom, I lean toward that being the case. Only my family knows about this, I've been extremely reluctant to mention it to anyone, but fever, the chills, profuse sweating, sore throat, the aches, and a difficulty taking a satisfying breath. The last was the worst part of it, a feeling like there was not quite enough oxygen in my lungs. It was uncomfortable, but it never escalated to the point I would think to seek out medical attention, and all of it lasted about two-three weeks. I've been through far, far worse, though to be fair I didn't seek medical attention for those things either. I'm more of a naturalist, and I went straight for the tonic (a master immune system tonic also called Firewater) and the appropriate vitamins (D, C, and a zinc/magnesium/calcium combo added to my daily multi vitamin) and a tea made with Chaga mushrooms. At first I figured I'd caught some kind of 'bug', then I started to think it was pre-menopause and the breathing issue was anxiety, haha, and maybe that's still true...we'll see if I have any repeats of these symptoms though it's been a month.
There’s a loud argument going on, though so far the louder side is of the Better Safe Than Sorry mind, while the other side insists this is all a Psy Op- one that will lead us to forfeiting our freedoms (arguably has already to an extent) for some kind of economic play by the elite on the world stage.
I choose, at this time, not to put in my own two cents. I’m in the Watch and See group. Mostly though, I’m in the Make the best of it, remember to be grateful that we’re even here, Group.
And speaking of gratitude, I think I will add a segment in these posts called “What I’m grateful for Today”.
So on April 1, 2020 I choose this Hive Platform, which has quickly become an oasis from the mainstream with all of its Out of the Box style thinkers! A place where I can feel comfortable asking questions and stating opinions that are out of the mainstream. Thanks guys, you rock!
There is a lot more to talk about, particularly the pandemic I can actually verify- unemployment- a topic for the next time.
Until then...
