It took me a while to get around to writing this. Sometimes, I stumble on articles or comments or the likes where people brand Nigerians as the center of attraction for jokes related to scamming or similar things.
Initially, I felt it was just something harmless, like a stereotype, just like how the Asian guy must always know martial arts or how the American dude must have a gay friend or other seemingly harmless stereotypes intended at making light of otherwise complicated situations.
However, I was grossly mistaken, this has evolved beyond a joke to being something serious. Factually, they even warn people to be wary of Nigerians, that they're scammers and all. I don't blame such people, I usually blame their environment (or lack of touch with reality), their greed and lack of understanding.
Sometimes, I wonder how an individual will believe a lousy story of a Nigerian multimillionaire who needs a few thousands before he can access his millions. Zero investments that await maturity, zero everything and because of greed, we turn off our safety guards and send the money waiting for an oil contract, a triple investment, an inheritance that WILL NEVER come.
That is plain greed. It's just like me giving a Ned Scott 10 steem for votes without actually putting steps in place to confirm the identity.
If you fail an exam because you didn't read, is it your fault or the fault of the lecturer?
Scamming is wrong, however, scamming is everywhere. Don't use Nigeria as a scape goat when other European, Asian and nations in the Americas do it worse.
They highest theft in the crypto space on exchangers was done by Asians. That money is more than what all these so called fraudsters have stolen.
If you must brand anyone a thief, brand EVERYONE instead of just a particular someone.
I don't scam people, my family doesn't do it and I know millions of people would also choose to be legitimate. Don't blame us for your carelessness and greed.
How about you go to a field you just poured water on without planting seeds and harvest the crops which were never planted.
I know so many foreign business based in Nigeria. We support the economies of many nations, that gives us respect.
