My Mom
WHAT UP HOMIES!!!
Before we get started - Yes. I'm fully aware that Mothers day was a little over a week ago. I had every intention of posting this on Mothers-day but for various reasons that didn't happen. Sorry mom. Now, with that having been said - lets dive on into the post.
Note: This video is another throwback - I followed my Rockstar of a mother around for a day in December of 2017.
If you've kept up with my blog then you know how much I cherish the time I get to spend with my Mother and how important family is to me. My mom (as with most) does so much for other people - She’s totally selfless and gives nothing but 100% all the time. I mean it - Everyone she meets, everything that she does - it's done with nothing but full effort and a heart bubbling with love. She leaves nothing in the tank ever. She goes out of her way to help others at every turn and rarely does she ever do anything just for herself. When I say rarely I really mean like never.
To say I've been blessed in life would be an understatement. I've had it good. Really good. From family to friends. All nothing shy of perfect. That's not to say I've been without my troubles. There's been times rougher than others.
I remember times when I was a kid that the only way I got new clothes were when my mom splurged and spent a collective $50 between my two sisters and I at Goodwill. But no matter what we never went without. To my parent’s credit - There was always food on the table and clothes on our backs. The lights were always on and there was always something fun to do. I never knew how bad things were because like mothers tend to do - mine hid the worst from us.
As the years went on and things balanced out she found herself with more time and less stressed finances - What did she do? No, she didn't buy herself a new car. No, she didn't go on a crazy luxurious vacation. She started giving back to her community.
For the last 4 years my mom and a friend have put together "Blessing Bags" for the less fortunate. All made possible because of donations from local business – Friends, Family and her putting her own money in. In 2016 they did a go fund me but never managed to raise all that much money. Each bag costs between $20 and $40 - This year there were roughly 35 bags - At $20 a bag x 35 bags it comes out to roughly $700 CDN in out of pocket costs and product donations. This is just for one day.
Aside from doing the blessing bags she also frequently will buy homeless people in her area meals - Takes them to the laundry mat - Or to Goodwill to buy new clothes. Any way I really just wanted brag about how awesome I think my mom is - But I'd Also like to push for some awareness about the blessing bag idea - I challenge all of you to get out there - Tell your friends about Blessing bags & spread some love.
