The first time I saw a project on the steem blockchain use a created asset on bitshares to fund a project was ZAPPL.
I bought 1% of the assets back then to support ZAPPL and as an investment.
At the time I thought they were shares in the ZAPPL company but it turned out that it was just a loan that they will buy back at some point. (my own fault I should have read better).
But still, they used the money and build this: https://zappl.com/! Very cool!
Now, Dporn is doing something similar and have been doing for a while but I missed it.
They also created an asset on bitshares called PORND. here.
But this time it's not a loan.

They confirmed it's the main way the project is funded.
