Well, only a game left to play and the one with the biggest prize at stake. The winners of the next match will be crowned World Cup champions of 2018. Who will that be? That is yet to be written, but I've already made my feelings clear as to who I think it will. Though, to be honest, I like both teams very much. France and Croatia thoroughly deserve their shot at being in the finals. But what of today's runners up game?
England vs. Belgium. Again, my prediction is still hitting that 100% winning streak. Although there was little drama in the game itself, I think it's fair to say it was a pretty one-sided affair. England's abysmal skills were displayed in all their ugly glory for the world to see. Belgium scored their first goal within the first few minutes of play. And that's in no small part to England's cringe-worthy defence. It had more holes than a slab of cheese and Belgium capitalized on that every single time. In fact, I'm surprised the match didn't have more goals scored by them. I've always said that this country got caught up in the euphoria of getting a few goals against Panama and Tunisia, thus thinking they were a good team. No, they are not. This match proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt. And the closing result was a solid 2-0 victory for the Belgians. Nice one.
But please, don't get me wrong. If England are good at a sport, I'll be more than happy to hoist the flag and cheer them on all day long. Such as boxing, for instance. But football, much as the nation want to deny it, is certainly not their forte. I saw through the "emperors clothes" from the get go and it still surprises me that the people of England were so shocked at the last two defeats. Even the commentators were busying themselves with excuses as to why they were playing so poorly. It was nothing but a shambles from them. But anyways, it is what it is and clearly shows that they still have a mountain to climb if they ever want to reach international level football.
So, well done to Belgium. Another team that have simply outdone themselves in the World Cup and earned my utmost respect in this sport. Third place is "bronze"recognition as far as I'm concerned so a mighty fine achievement on their part. And now on to the final. The big showdown between two underdogs at the start of the tournament. It has the makings of an absolute thriller. The only way I'll be missing this match is if the world blows up.
And hopefully, the apocalypse can wait... :)
