And he disappeared into thin air, never to be seen again. Only footprints and voices from a distance. They occasionally heard tears drop like rain - tears springing forth from a shattered heart. Music of pain rents the night. The clouds were thick, tomorrow looked bleak...
Have you ever stopped to think about the real emotions behind every LOL and LMAO you see on your screens? Have you ever tried to go out of your way to find out how people truly felt? Do you know it’s very easy to mask pains with emojis?
That one person that is always overly excited and being good to everyone might be going through hell and trying to mask it all by acting well. They might not be doing it for the “attention” but to run away from the reality of what they are really going through. It’s more of an escape than a therapy.
Try to think of that guy you see walking past you with earphones plugged in and not talking to anybody. Even something as visible as that is often times ignored, how much more the ones that happen behind the screens we have grown to become glued to.
Have you ever found something you weren’t really looking for, and then it turns out to be the most amazing thing ever? Something like your discovery of blockchain and decentralization but this time, with a twist.
See, imagine you are all by yourself enjoying the life you have the way you have it. Then out of nowhere, you find a piece of stone and you get drawn to it for reasons unknown to you. Out of curiosity, you begin to get interested, trying to find out what about it could have drawn you this strong. At several points, you try to break away from this attachment but you find yourself always coming back because the hold is just way too strong.
So you realize instead of fighting this, it will be best if you tried to understand what’s going on. This takes weeks and the more you stay around, the stronger the attachment grows. You, however, begin to pick up clues as to why the attachment exists. You find out it isn’t an ordinary stone after all but some precious jewel. This discovery does nothing but increases the strength of the attachment and at this point, you don’t mind anymore because you’ve found this “stone” to be worth your time. Nothing anyone says will make you walk away.
Have you ever seen a diamond? Yeah, they’re everywhere!
Have you ever seen a ruby? Nah, they’re very rare!
Even a quick search on pexels.com will prove this point very easily.
Imagine you found this “stone” to be a ruby, what length will you go to make sure this ruby stays yours - well it isn’t yet yours at this point tho but you can’t help but dream already. You’re allowed to dream. Also, have it in mind that all these while you were getting to unravel the mystery behind the masked ruby, you could not tell anyone about it. You know you’ve gone through different types of disappointments in times past and you are too scared to add this to the list. In fact, in all your dreaming, you could never bring yourself for once to dream about being disappointed this time around.
Over the course of several days, there were ups and downs, bumps in the road but they were not going to debar you because you understand very well that rubies are not for the faint-hearted. You kept fighting every thought of another disappointment, you were going to persevere and not give up this time around. Afterall, you have no other choice. It was either this or nothing at all. I mean, this is THE SUNRISE RUBY!
Just when your optimism hits sky level and it feels as though nothing can stop you, you have everything under control with a perfect plan, a familiar face pops up - disappointment.
There goes the end of our imagination exercise.
One more thing to imagine; what would be going through your mind? The attachment is still as strong as ever and that isn’t ever changing so there’s nothing like you getting over it. It’s ruby and not even just any ruby but the Sunrise Ruby! So it’s not a case of you getting/finding another one. There’s no other one! Also, remember all the dreams and how you had already built the rest of your life around it.
Maybe it was your fault, but was it really your fault? You weren’t out looking for a ruby.
Way too many people die daily, slowly, without anyone noticing. Every rejection, every disappointment, every heartbreak eats us up slowly but surely. What option is left for someone who sees tomorrow as being very dark and bleak? Why would they want to go to bed at night when there’s nothing to look forward to the next day? Why would they want to stay alive?
So when some take the bold step to stay alive, they find a cave they can always run to. That's the only way they can survive. Music, social media, or work.
Working excessively can serve as an escape from whatever disturbances they might be going through. Have you noticed someone taking up more work than is expected, especially in a group? They might just be running away from something.
Now, noticing is the first step. Getting to find out what’s up is the next step but it’s never as easy as just asking. Often times, they’ll claim to be fine and of course, they’re fine. Why won’t they be fine when nothing matters anymore. The way they feel doesn’t matter and you questioning them will change nothing so what’s the point? What's the point of letting them relive every heart-wrenching moment as they try to tell you the story, only for you to tell them "sorry"?
The only thing that matters is the Sunrise Ruby.
The sun has fallen out of the sky. The sun belongs not to him. The sky is no longer blue. Tomorrow is no longer new. Cruel darkness. Nothing exciting. Just going through the motions. Blood draining one drop at a time as the heart bleeds itself to death.
THE END.
