There Is Nothing Like A Good Book
Maybe my granddaughter got slightly ahead of herself here, or else Penelope is taking after her great grandmother very quickly. But really, we are a family of readers. The adults read and so the kids sit next to us with their books and read also.
Leani, at age 5, may not know the words for sure, but she always has a book in her hands. Samuel at age 2, wants to read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" over and over again. He has it memorized. His sister, age 3, has her counting books. All of the children must go to book events and library's.
How do you create readers and children that live to learn? First of all, make sure books are important to you, the parent. If the parents are readers, the children will grow up wanting to read. Secondly, make sure books are always available, and that they know how to care for them. Thirdly, it is good to go out to library's and other book events.
There are two things that the children see daily in this family, tea and a good book. We all live the quote by C.S. Lewis:
“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
– C.S. Lewis
So grab your favorite exotic cup of tea, and a good book. We will meet at the glider and read out day away. Are you ready for the adventure of a good book? It is amazing what you will discover. And by the way, bring the kids!
