"what is this!? " my mum asked in our native language after the morning prayers...she had waltz into my room again like she ALWAYS do, this time the topic was why on earth would you buy a white/black ombre wig
P.s My mum hates or should i say dislike, anything outside "normal"
I had kept the wig on my bed this morning while arranging my room after successfully hiding it for 3weeks. π (one has to be careful in a Nigerian home).
"it's my new wig" i replied waiting for her bark, believe me its far worse than her bite..
Then came the expected question "why couldn't you buy black? What is wrong with you?"
"i love this color" i replied half scared...then i added "i am an adult, i should be able to pick/buy what i want not what you like, its my choice!"
With the wig in her hand and a little disappointment on her face she took it straight to my dad to "report" me. Lol
"look what your daughter bought"my mum said. "she believes she's an adult now and could do what she likes" she continued in our native tongue
My dad replied "i like it" lol!
Score one for me!!!
Defeated my mum came back to my room and tossed the hair on my bed and goes "why have you been hiding it?"
"well i didn't want you to shout (scold) at me" i replied
Then she says if truly you were proud and happy about "your choice" and is an adult like you say, you wouldn't be afraid or care what other people think
Score 1274748 for mum afterall coz what she said hit home and had me thinking. ..When you are living in a world or should i say country where what you think and want doesn't matter until you 30 or married, you find yourself living in the shadow of wanting approval from anyone/everyone about almost everything... #sad#
Don't Be Afraid Of What People Think Or Say About YOU, love the life that you live! or in my case rock the wig that you love! π
