One of the oldest living and practicing doctors, he works 10 hours a day every day of the week and charges his patients just Rs 30 per visit.
He donates most of his earnings to charity. Except a fracture in 1995, he claims to have never visited another doctor for any sort of illness.

The secret is his healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a moderate diet.
He has been a practicing doctor of traditional allopathic methods since 1941, and now, even at the ripe age of 102, he has no desire to stop.
The BJ Medical School alumni in Pune, Ghatpande completed his Licentiate in Medicine and Surgery, (LCPS) in 1941. He worked with British Indian Empire as government Medical Officer from 1941-1948.
He was posted in few of the districts in Maharashtra. When asked about why he left government service, he said, “I was working in Patan (Satara district in Maharashtra) when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.
There was a threat to my life, so I left my job and came to Pune.” For the last 69 years, he is practicing at his own clinic in Rasta Peth area of Pune.
Even at this age, Dr Balwant Ghatpande consults around 15 to 20 patients every day. He does not like being asked the question, on why he wants to practice even at this age.
It is not often that the world is blessed with an individual so committed to helping others Hats off Dr.Balwant.
Really great..how wondering that in 102-year-old age still he has the feelings from the heart to provide the treatment and service to the people. Our nation to be proud of Mr.Balwant Ghatpande .salute sir.
