Hi all !
For some years now there are some issues that come and leave in my mind and making me having some thoughts about them. One of them is education.
In my country , Hellas, education supposed to be free accessed and free from paying for it too.
Education in Hellas consists of : 2 years preschool classes , 6 years primary school, 3 years secondary school and three years high school classes . The school season starts about 10 of September and ends about on 10 of June. There are also 2 weeks off for Cristmas-New year and Easter.
An average day in each of these starts at 08:15 and ends at 13:30. The last years there is also an option for parents that both work , leave the kid at school until 16:00 (preschool and primary school) to watch 'creativity' classes. This could be considered as a good thing as the kid won't have to stay alone at home at this age.
And here comes my first question .
Why does a kid has to wake up at 07:00am or in case it has to take the bus at 05:00am to go at school? Is its organism ready at this age (still growing)-and in any age, but this is another topic-to respond in day's school obligations so early in the morning?
Here comes a second question.
Why does school has to be considered as an obligation from the students? It supposed to be fun going at school..
Here comes the third question.
Why school is called 'school' and not 'education institute' ?
A fourth one.
Why does a class day has to last 5-7 hours ?

As for the free access in my opinion there have been made good enough steps so every kid can join the education system. Of course there still many problems in the areas that there isn't a school near and the kids have to wake up too early in order to catch the bus for school and be on time in class as already mentioned. But if there are not enough kids in an area ,the state can't afford to maintain a school. The last decade , in the name of crisis education took this hit too after the almost every year cuts in State's budget.
Here comes another question. Are there really not enough money for education? Or they don't give enough for a reason?(Ok ,these were 2 questions..)
I also mentioned the free from paying for it too. This , for the Hellenic family is an 'Utopia' !
Why I say that? Because the first thing a parent gets when his child goes to school , is a list with what he is going to need for the school season which are going to cost about 100euros. The books are given free from the Ministry of education indeed but only them.
-The parents have to pay for their kid's performance's clothes/uniform for the school festivals .
-The parents have to pay an institute in order their child learn a foreign language . This cost is about 50 euros per month.
-The parents have to pay an institute for their child's been in high school in order they can succeed in exams for entering the university. This cost is about 250 euros per month.
-The last 20 years education level is becoming more low every year , that many parents start paying institutes even for primary school lessons. For those who can afford , this cost another 50 euros.
Question .
Why isn't there an obligation for the students to return the books they get for free back, in good condition or else to pay for them in order to reduce the cost of publishing and give more money in education generally? Or why in 2018 aren't there books in digital form?
Question.
Why does a school bag have to weight about 15 kilos? Is a little kid (still in grow-rementioned-)to hold this bag without having skeleton problems?
Question.
Why school buildings are so ugly ? In some cases they look like prisons !
Question.
Why aren't there more outside school classes with real life examples, for example in Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy and more science lessons so the child acquires a bigger interest in them instead learning everything from a boring book ?
WHY ISN'T THE SCHOOL FUN?
