There is much talk of equality in the world nowadays, but how much truth is there in the concept?
As far as I can observe the harsh reality is that there is no such thing as equality. No two humans are equal in every respect.
But rather than create animosity, this can be used to cultivate the understanding that variety is the spice of life. Some people are creative, some others are more physically capable, and then some are more intellectually focused.
The real problem lies in the mindset that dictates that there should be equality of outcome rather than equality of opportunity. I came across this quote and it really resonated for me - because of the inherent truth within it.
In hell everyone is equal. Every genuine spiritual path has conceptions of higher and lower i.e. that the ideal is contained within hierarchy and this structure give our lives direction and meaning. We aspire to serve the highest ideal.
This is in stark contrast to the conception of the modern world which dictates "every man (or woman) for himself (or herself"...
So we can make our world into a heaven or a hell, up to us... At the moment though, it seems we're mostly downward facing. Of course we have the power to change that, and re-calibrate our minds, but it will take time and energy, and deep contemplation of our situation and our world.
Thanks for reading and I hope I gave you something to think about.
