Alternative Methods #2
After writing the first post about Alternative Methods, I decided to do another one since I was delighted by the interaction I got, that I still have to reply, and also because I have a few more things that I would like to share on this subject. These alternatives certainly have many benefits, but just because they are so new, sometimes people don’t quite know how to approach them, some run away, some try to stop them but many abuse them, and I’ll get to that in a minute.
Alternative Media
If you’re reading my stuff for a while, you already know how much I despise the TVs and people that are just wasting their time, money and even health so they can get fed up with shit from the mass media. I think that no one should even own a TV, they are so old and useless that the best way is to try to sell them and buy some bitcoin. But besides that, I also hate the radio, I didn’t mention about it yet because I didn’t think people are still using the radios but after traveling about 100km yesterday, I realized that I have to.
The problem with both of them is that you are not in control, you cannot block or even skip the ads, you have to bear through them, and the most you can do is change to another channel that is also filled with shit. The music is mostly commercial, the type of shit that is only filling your head with stupid stuff priming you in a maybe not negative but not so positive way either.
Also, the information is regulated, they don’t share the true stories, nor the fake ones but the stories that sell the best, regardless of their nature. The today’s media is not spreading facts anymore; they are spreading their opinion about the facts which is a very unhealthy behavior since most people pick that up and move on with their lives without checking out the truth.
But, there’s a solution to all that, the goddamn internet, now, you don’t have to listen to the music some morons pick for you, now you can easily choose what you want to listen instantaneously. You don’t have to watch many stupid ads; you can block all of them. You can pick the facts yourself and form your own opinions, check every story and come up with a solution, it is a long process, but it is better for you.
To any of the known mass media now there are a better alternative media on the internet. Instead of using Facebook that steals your information and influences your behavior, you can just use Steem, which is still full of shit but if you filter the information, you can pick a few gems and even earn some bucks.
In Your Pocket
And one of the best things about it is this new alternative media kind of thing is in your pocket; you don’t need many devices for each field, you can just use your phone for all of them. You get your news from your phone, listen to your favorite music, talk to your loved ones and even earn money, all in this relatively small device, and it’s both exciting and scary.
Going back to what I said in the introduction of this article, many people abuse the freedoms I just mentioned above and waste all of their spare time on these alternative media without really gaining anything because they don’t know how to filter anything.
The thing is that we were not used to this and now because we have technology everywhere we abuse it because it’s something new, but that’s not healthy behavior. Besides the fact that people waste their time, they often forget to disconnect so they can connect with people and this is the thing I hate the most about these alternative media.
In the past, you couldn’t carry your PC with you, but now, you can just play games anywhere regardless if you have human beings near you or not. And the problem is that everybody’s doing it and it’s becoming the new norm, and if we keep on acting this way, we might end up behaving like mindless machines that can’t think for themselves or breath without a phone.
Conclusion
These alternative media are a total blessing, and if you know how to use them correctly you will win tremendously, but on the other hand, so many people are just abusing this new world. I think that once time passes and the technology matures, we might see an increase in real life connections or it also might get worse, and we’re doomed, but regardless, you’re the one in control of your usage.
If you can sort out the gems from the crap and only focus on what’s beneficial to you and those around you while trying to influence positively the people you interact with, then you certainly win.
I think a new world is developing and I have no idea how it will look like, but it’s certainly both exciting and scary at the same time.
