In July, I have started my new shift pattern (just for the next six months) of working Saturdays and Sundays 7am - 3pm, and then Thursdays and Fridays become my actual weekend. But why? You ask! Why sacrifice the chance to have fun and relax with your loved ones? The answer is money.
Prior to this I was just working 10am-8pm Monday - Thursday which was great and meant I had a 3 day weekend, plenty of time to spend with my husband and also received 20% on top of my salary for working into the evening. However, the company decided to cut the evening hours, so now we close at 6pm, and I was forced to make the decision of working a regular shift on my base salary, which is 20% lower than what I have been earning the entire time I've worked there, or do I work on the weekend?
And here I am, working on a Saturday and Sunday, so.... how is it going so far?
More Money
Yay for time and a half on Saturday, and double time on a Sunday. It's only for 6 months so I can see how it goes and then in January I may change again so I can have my weekends. Obviously money isn't everything, but at the same time my husband and myself are trying to save for a house and a future.... plus I want to do other things as well, like go skiing in Japan for our next wedding anniversary. 😇
More Time to Steemit
One thing that I am enjoying about working on the weekend, and working so early is that for the first few hours of the day at least I get hardly any calls. I can sit in my office and go through Steemit, reply to comments, and put together posts. I made coxinha recently with my stepdaughter, so instead of having to put that recipe post together in my free time, I can put it together in my work time. I'm very lucky in that respect that I am working from home on the weekend, not in a hospitality job where I couldn't just sit on Steemit or do whatever while i'm waiting for a customer to call.
Avoiding Bad Weekend Habits
I had kinda hoped that working on the weekend would help me to be healthier, by avoiding the things that myself and my husband do like going out for breakfast on the weekend, or maybe helping me to avoid the temptation to drink a lot if I know I have to be up for work early. We will just have to see how that one pans out...
Missing out on some of the fun... but not all of it
Yesterday my husband and my stepdaughter went to the arcade during the day. I love the arcade, we only went on Friday but I already want to go again. But then I finished at 3pm and we all took the dog to the dog beach together, and I cooked dinner for us at home, so I still managed to enjoy a good chunk of the day with them. 😍
