I started Telemark Skiing when I was fourteen years old and got hooked immediately! Here's an image of me from ages ago participating in a Telemark Competition in Val Thorens in France. I lived in the Alps for four winters and once a week I both organized and participated in competitions. Telemark Skiing is a technique where the heel is loose and the upper leg (back foot) is bent.
This was before it was cool to wear goggles and helmet, luckily that has changed....
Telemark is actually a region in Norway, where a man, Sondre Norheim invented the ski binding with heel cap. He is called the pioneer in modern skiing since his invention changed the ski sport.
My favorite place to ski off-piste, nothing beats finding great powder on a sunny day.
Next weekend I'll leave my husband and kids at home, and I'll be off to the mountain with some girlfriends. I can't wait to hang out with them and to be skiing all day! I guess looking forward to that made me write this post...
Thanks for reading!
