Simon Sinek gave an excellent talk about Millennials in the workplace of today, and social media addiction. According to recent research, people get dopamine rush when they post, 'like' or share something online. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain's reward and pleasure centers. Social media users actually get a “dopamine high” from positive interactions with one another (or with brands) on social media. Social media affects the brain in the similar way that food, sex or drugs can, the consequent feelings of a rush of happiness and contentment is thanks to dopamine.
This argument makes a strong case for limiting very young impressionable peoples use of social media as it has clearly can be addictive and can have a bad psychological effect on these growing minds. Even older and wiser users should bear this human trait in mind. Make sure your usage of these platforms is healthy and above all balanced with all the wonders the real world offers!
