This is just a little celebratory post. I wasn't sure whether I'd be writing one for reaching 1000 followers or reputation of 60 first, but turns out it's the latter. I consider both to be important little landmarks along my STEEM journey.
Arbitrary ones, of course. But hey, aren't we making up all the meaning our lives have?
Example of How Arbitrary We Are
We graduate from high school. Means something because they have this big ceremony and everyone congratulates us. Our parents say how proud they are. But really, what happened?
We got to a point where we are no longer forced to spend our days being indoctrinated by a particular system of belief under the control of people who are placed in authority above us. Well that is something to celebrate certainly, but what is the meaning? It means something because we all say it does. We have been able to successfully play along within that manufactured reality long enough and well enough to be deemed acceptable by society. Whoop ti do!
I didn't actually go to my high school graduation, because to me it was just a stop along the way to my college graduation (which I also didn't attend) and then my grad school graduation (my last academic graduation for this lifetime and one I did in fact attend).
But for some people each of these graduations holds a lot of meaning. In some communities, it's so rare for the children to be able to survive the educational system and stay in school long enough to get that first diploma that they've started having graduation ceremonies for elementary school grades! Gotta keep the kids motivated to keep going when everyday life is so irrelevant. (If only more kids were educated in the Waldorf style, that focuses on giving kids the essential skills they need to become self-directed, naturally curious, lifelong learners, and gives them the freedom to be that while they're still kids.)
This is just one example I landed on, but really there are so many I could use that show how arbitrary our sense of accomplishment is. We motivate ourselves by skillfully selecting milestones within the passage of life, then acting like it's a big deal when we hit them.
Well here's mine: I just achieved a reputation of 60!
What does it mean?
The Meaning
Well it does mean I've been active enough on the platform to have enough people upvote me to raise my score from 25 to 60. I think it may also mean that those upvoting me have a high rep themselves, though I'm not sure exactly how that works. I think people with a lower rep than me also increase my score when they upvote me, but maybe not. So maybe it means I "have friends in high places," LOL.
If it had happened a week ago it would have meant I would have gotten twice as many coins in the byteball airdrop. Sigh.
It also means.... hmm....
Well maybe that's all, but I'll take it. Now on to the next milestone of 1000 followers. I'll figure out what that means when I get there.
Won't you celebrate with me? 🎂👏😁
