Many years ago I went through a period of about 3 weeks of what one would call a satori experience.
During this time I had many siddhis (spiritual powers) among which was the ability to communicate with other life forms, including trees.
Once you know, you can't un-know. Though I didn't have any scientific explanation for my experience, that didn't stop me from knowing ever since that trees are self-aware. In fact, in my experience trees are just as self-aware as mammals and sometimes more intelligent. (They just can't run away screaming when we go to chop at them.)
Thankfully there is getting to be more and more research supporting the experience I had with scientific evidence. Here's an excerpt from one such article
Her 30 years of research in Canadian forests have led to an astounding discovery: trees talk, communicating often and over vast distances. Trees are much more like us humans that you may think. They are extremely social and depend on each other for their survival. Communication is vital, and a massive web of hair-like mushroom roots transmit secret messages between trees, triggering them to share nutrients and water with those in need.
You might wonder how this could even be physically possible. Turns out Star Trek Discovery's spore drive is at least partly based in science.
Trees converse by chemical and hormonal signals via a network of mycelium.
I won't repeat the entire article here, but if the above intrigues you I encourage you to give the full article a read. It's not that long, but is packed with the information we all need to become more responsible stewards of this beautiful, magical planet of ours.
One thing it includes is advice on how to get wood from forests in the least harmful way, as well as clearing forests to prevent wildfires when we aren't allowing natural periodic fires due to humans living nearby.
