It's a windy one today here in Minneapolis, but that didn't stop us from making the 10 minute drive to the fringe of Downtown to check out the Minneapolis Farmers Market. "The Largest Open Air Market In The Midwest"
It is now open daily from 6-1:30pm so we might be going more frequently after this visit. The area itself is pretty large. It boasts many different kinds of wares like home made jewelry, home made clothing, a few all natural pain relieving booths, a few all-natural, grass fed beef and pork booths, gourmet cheese stands, and many others. Then there are your typical state fair stands like mini donuts, corn on the cob, and popcorn. The produce selection was top notch. Lot's of different varieties of high quality produce, we would have needed a shopping cart if my eyes would have been footing the bill. I love the competition aspect of it though, there are so many produce stands that if one of them has higher prices than another, they will quickly lose a lot of business until they re-adjust their pricing. It's the free market at work benefiting everyone in the trade.
Now that we have a kid, getting out has been harder and harder to do. I feel like we are still living, but weekdays it's like, in bed by 9. Which means we really need to cherish our weekends. It was a great feeling to pack up the car and push the stroller around with my wife while getting some much needed fresh air and Vitamin D.
There was a really cool shirt vendor there and I had never seen a lot of his shirt designs before. Here are a few of my favorites. They all have a MN theme to them.
The produce selection is massive, but the varieties of flowers might be even bigger. I wish we would have had more room to carry stuff because everything was so beautiful. My wife has a thing for cacti, so we bought one. It was small enough to carry and we crossed off 'a plant' from our list, lol.
They also had live music which upped the ambiance factor. A balloon artist was around to entertain the little ones too.
All in all, I'd say we came away with some really high quality goods and it was so nice to get out and enjoy a beautiful Saturday. Even better was supporting local businesses and voting with our dollars. I also noticed a lot of people reading my taxation is theft shirt. So maybe I planted some seeds of my own today, too.
Looking forward to seeing what other Steemians have to show for their local Farmers Market. Thanks for the initiative
Steem on friends!
